Washington and Lee shows no love
for student-faculty relationships

Washington and Lee University has made it official: Student-faculty sexual or romantic relationships, even those that are consensual, are prohibited.

The administration released a draft of the policy in late February to the faculty and staff asking for feedback. According to Provost June Aprille, only four or five comments were made, all of which were favorable or asked for clarification. The policy that was put into effect Wednesday is unchanged from the proposal.

"An institution like ours needs to have a policy like this on file," said Aprille. "It took a lot of work to make sure we were going at it right for the culture at our institution, but I'm pleased with the way it turned out."
